The Matcha tea spoon, or "Chashaku", is a traditional spoon used in Japanese matcha tea making. A spoonful of matcha with the Chashaku is equivalent to 1 serving of matcha.
Made from Golden bamboo. Approximately 16 to 17 cm.
Maintenance tips:
After use, rinse with clean water, handling it gently. Do not use detergents. Wipe well with a clean, dry, soft cloth.
Manufacturing method:
Cut bamboo, then twist under heat.
How to whisk matcha:
- Ideally you should place the whisk into hot water for a couple of seconds to soften the bamboo and loosen the strands before use.
- Measure out 1 - 2 scoops with your Chashaku of matcha powder into a cup or ceremonial matcha bowl.
- Add about 60 ml hot water to your cup and begin to whisk. This is the tricky part! Whisk the matcha vigorously in a zig-zag motion (not circular whisking as in baking), taking special care not to scrape the strings across the bottom of the cup.
- Once you've created an even layer of foam on, slowly remove the whisk in a swirling motion to create a soft peak of foam on top.
